Housing

In an ideal world, our homes are built to last, incorporate energy-efficient features, and produce clean air to breathe. Investment in the long-term durability and energy-conserving elements in our homes has considerable benefits both, to the resident and to the environment. We support Green-Built homes which research shows can reduce our home energy consumption by over 50 percent using existing off-the-shelf technology.

In addition, the location of your home in relation to basic services is an important consideration. Mixed-use neighborhoods such as New Urbanist towns place homes within a five-minute walk of the town center with shopping, recreation, dining, schools, medical offices, etc. Research shows this design philosophy can significantly reduce automobile use and energy consumption. Research has also found that walkable neighborhoods improve one’s overall health and promotes weight loss. Social connections with neighbors are increased by urban density, such as those found in active adult communities.
