When we speak about sustainability it really begins with the personal health of our physical body, our emotional and mental state, and the quality of our consciousness. For the physical body, we are advocates of eating food mindfully, in pleasant surroundings and choosing foods that are grown locally and organically whenever possible. Conscious eating of healthy foods provides the body with sustaining energy. We support body practices that involve the breath so movement is mindful and the mind is engaged in the movement. We have found that the ancient practices of Yoga, Thai Chi and Qi Gong are excellent forms that one can do throughout one's life to prevent illness and keep the body strong and flexibility.
As the pace of life in our society increases, it becomes even more imperative to find ways to regularly quiet the mind and experience inner states of peace and relaxation free from daily concerns. Many CEO's and company founders we have spoken with have daily meditation practices that allow them to rest the mind in tranquility and find deeper states of Presence. Those of us who spend much of our days engaged in mental activity can especially benefit from simple breath and meditation practices that focus on the heart and cultivate love, compassion and gratitude.
