Advocates say concept promotes community

Sunday, April 27, 2003 - ALAMEDA -- Jim and Normal Cole held an informational meeting Saturday regarding Oak Creek Commons, a California Central Coast co-housing development near San Louis Obispo for which they hoped to recruit neighbors.

The Alameda couple is one of 26 families and individuals already committed to living in the 14-acre co-housing community scheduled to open in 2004 in Paso Robles.

Advocates of co-housing say the Danish-living concept, which includes shared dining facilities and open courtyards between houses, promotes a deeper sense of community.

The Coles will be involved in second pot luck and informational meeting in San Francisco at 6:30 p.m. on May 10. To get directions and to attend, call Eillen McCourt on (415) 831-5474. For information on Oak Creek Commons, visit www.oakcreekcommons.org
